ALL AWARDS ARE APPROVED SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS. BEFORE FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS ACTUALLY PROVIDED, EACH STUDENT MUST SHOW OFFICIAL EVIDENCE OF ENROLLMENT IN THE INTENDED DEGREE PROGRAM DURING THE FALL 2002 AND THE SPRING 2003 SEMESTERS TO QUALIFY FOR SUPPORT. ALL AWARDEES ARE ENCOURAGED TO SEEK OTHER SOURCES OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
Applications received before February 1, 2001 will be evaluated by March 1, 2001. You may apply for an award even if you have not yet been accepted for a graduate and/or advanced degree program. Actual transfer of funds will not occur until proof is provided of enrollment in a degree program.
The funds supporting this fellowship opportunity are provided through Gallaudet University by the District of Columbia Space Grant Consortium. The goal of the awards is to identify individuals who show promise of making a contribution to science and technology and to assist them in completing an advanced, technical degree. In the past, the typical assistance grant for individuals has been $5,000.00 for one year. New applications for awards will be invited and evaluated every year. Awardees and new candidates may reapply for assistance as often as necessary.
In addition to evaluating the content of your application and letters of recommendation, reviewers will be asked to take into account how an applicant's proposed studies may complement and potentially support NASA's strategic enterprises (see www.nasa.gov):
ACCEPTANCE OF AN AWARD LEAVES THE AWARDEE FREE TO:
- SELECT FUTURE EMPLOYMENT
- ENROLL IN A SCHOOL OF THEIR CHOICE
- SEEK ADDITIONAL SOURCES OF FUNDING
