What is Unique about Bolivia?

Bolivia, named after the South American freedom fighter, Simon Bolivar, broke away from Spanish rule in 1825. The first scientific expedition to the area was organized by Percy Fawcett in 1908 and 1909. Fawcett was contracted by the Bolivian and Brazilian governments to survey the boundary between these two countries. Fawcett later described the area to his friend and author, Arthur Conan Doyle, who used it as the basis for his fictional account of the prehistory of men and dinosaurs in book “The Lost World.”
